Virendra Joshi (Virendra Krishna Das)
Jagannath Astro Advice is the result of a noble initiative from Jyotishacharya Virendra Krishna dasa, who desired that genuine astrology reach out to the needy. Jyotishacharya Virendra Krishna dasa comes from a family of traditionally learnt astrologers. His grandfather, the late Pandit Vidyadhar ji Joshi resided in Kashi for 12 long years and learnt Vedas and Jyotisha. This passion for learning Vedas and Jyotisha was naturally with Jyotishacharya Virendra Krishna dasa. He studied under the tutelage of the late Jyotishacharya Pandit Shambhu Narayan ji Shastri from Ujjain. He began his studies at a tender age, and is gifted with the rare talent in predictive Jyotisha only found among astrologers who have learnt in the parampara system.
He is initiated into Gaudiya Vaishnavism through Param Pujya Jaya Om Vishnupada 108 Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaj, who was a very prominent and senior leader within ISKCON. Through the mercy of his spiritual master, Jyotishacharya Virendra Krishna dasa is well versed with Vedic scriptures including Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, the Vedas and Upanishads. By his spiritual master’s mercy, he has a thorough understanding of how the principles of astrology work and how Jyotisha fits in the larger scheme of things. Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, has given Jyotisha as a Vedanga, which should be used as an instrument to remove obstacles in the path of Krishna bhakti by all sincere seekers.
He uses Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, Jaimini Upadesa Sutras, Brihat Jataka and Saravali as the foundations of Jyotisha and teaches from various other Jyotisha scriptures and sacred literature such as the Bhagavad Gita, Upanisads, Puranas, etc. Few are able to grasp Jyotishacharya Virendra Krishna dasa’s broad and deep approach, and only the advanced spiritually trained astrologer is truly able to appreciate it. His teachings show the underlying factors of how the principles of astrology work. His teachings are chaste to the paramparic system which believes in maintaining the purity and sanctity of the Vedic scriptures. His personal life is a life of simple living and high thinking staunchly practising the regulative principles of spiritual life. His daily schedule comprises waking up before Brahma muhurta and chanting a minimum 16 malas of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. The remaining part of the day he is busy counselling and alleviating others’ sufferings.
He plans to start Vedic gurukulas training young children the Vedas, Jyotisha, without losing the essential purport of the Vedas and pass on the legacy which he has received from his spiritual master. He is presently working on translating the ancient Jyotisha scriptures according to his deep understanding of their meaning that has been given to him through the grace of his parampara.
