Navachandi homa is a Durga puja performed to grant desires. The worshipper obtains relief from his or her pains by doing the Navachandi yagna. According to a common Puranic belief, there are only two Gods who answer instantly to devotees’ pleas. They are Lord Ganesh and Goddess Chandi. Navchandi yagna, according to ancient sources, bestows excellent health, money, prosperity, longevity, food, wealth, renown, success, and strength. This yagna dispels dread of illness, danger, and defeat at the hands of foes, as well as appeases the malefic of the nine planets.
The Durga Saptashati or Chandi paath is another name for Devi Mahatmyam (ritual reading). Devi Mahatmyam is a collection of 700 poems divided into 13 chapters.
